Alberta Car Shipping

Alberta's two biggest cities are also the fastest growing in Canada. People arrive for a rotation up north, a job in Calgary or Edmonton, or simply more square footage than they had back home. Their vehicles come with them, and our car shipping services bring those in from anywhere in the country.

Moving a Car In or Out of Alberta?

Here’s what to know before you book.

Shipping Your Car to Alberta

Shipping Your Car to Alberta

Your car is picked up at your old address and delivered to your new one. If you would rather drop it off, there are four options: Nisku south of Edmonton, southeast Calgary, Fort McMurray and Sexsmith near Grande Prairie. Doing that yourself usually costs less than a home pickup.

Alberta is some of the most frequent vehicle transport work we do, so short-notice bookings are likelier to come together here than elsewhere. Winter does not close the corridor, though a storm can add a day or two to the window. If it is one household vehicle rather than a dealer load, you want personal vehicle transport.

Shipping Your Car Out of Alberta

Shipping Your Car Out of Alberta

Leaving Alberta is straightforward in any season, and Calgary and Edmonton are quick in both directions. From Fort McMurray or Grande Prairie, allow a few extra days.

If you are on a rotation and flying out before the truck comes, say so when you book. Someone needs to hand over the keys, and a camp parking lot is not a good place to leave a car waiting. If the vehicle is a collector car or high-value, ask about enclosed auto transport rather than open transport.

Seasonal Guide

Best Time to Book Vehicle Transport Services in Alberta

From the Calgary–Edmonton corridor to Highway 63, our drivers know Alberta's roads in every season.

  1. September to December

Open highways and easing demand, and the best run at getting a car north before Highway 63 sees deep winter.

  2. January to March

The quietest and cheapest time to book, with good availability at short notice. Have a block heater fitted so the car is ready for its first cold snap.

  3. April to June

Reliable conditions and plenty of capacity. Inspection stations get busy, so book the out-of-province inspection around the same time as the shipment.

  4. July to August

The widest choice of carriers and dates, with moves, postings and the university intake all running. Two to three weeks' notice gets you the window you want.

Alberta Car Shipping FAQs

How much does Alberta car shipping cost?

As of 2026, average Alberta car shipping costs range from about $950 for Edmonton to Winnipeg up to roughly $2,450 for Fort McMurray to Ottawa. Southern Alberta sits on the main east-west corridor, so it generally prices below the north for a comparable distance.

Is Calgary or Edmonton better to ship to?

There is very little between them. Both run 8 to 12 days from Toronto and price almost identically, so pick whichever is closer to where you are moving.

How long do I have to register my car in Alberta?

New residents have 90 days. The Out-of-Province inspection comes first for most cars, so start there.

Do you move auction and salvage vehicles as well as running cars?

Yes. Auction vehicle transport and salvage car transport both run on the same routes as regular shipments. Non-running vehicles need winch-equipped equipment, so mention it at booking.
